Balance Sheets

When checking recent paperwork for a recent rally we noticed the Balance Sheet was an old version showing incorrect details of Admin & Plaque fees @ £2.50 & £0.85. They should, of course, be £2.00 & £1.20. We’re not sure if all rally marshal envelopes have this old Balance Sheet but please would you ask all marshals to check their paperwork and correct as necessary.

The latest rally marshals documents are available in the members area on the website.

Thank you

ROY SEWELL – SUCH SAD NEWS

We have been contacted by the family to let us know that Roy Sewell passed away peacefully in his sleep on 27th March 2026.  Our sincerest condolences are sent to his wife, Lena and their family at this very sad time.

Our members will remember Roy and Lena running many rallies, including Holiday Rallies.   Having spoken with some of their friends, they said they had so many good memories of people having fun and enjoying themselves.  Roy will be much missed.

At this moment we have no further details, but we will let members know of any arrangements made.

Sending our love to Lena and the family xxx

Fire Safety

Dear Members

The matter of Fire Safety was discussed at a recent Committee meeting, and it was decided to put out a Notice to Members to bring the subject under the Spotlight. The aim of this would be for members to check their Fire Safety equipment carried in their units before the main rallying season begins.

Having checked the advice given by CAMC this tends to be recommendations and advice rather than rules, apart from the spacing between units.  (See below)

Taking this on board, recommendations for our members would be for a Bucket of Water to be put beside the A Frame when on a rally and a Fire Extinguisher and Fire Blanket to be carried on board.

However, if a fire was to start then the advice would be to Get Out of the Unit immediately and shout Fire, Fire, Fire to sound the alarm.

The advice below is taken from the Guidance Book for CAMC.

Fire Safety

Pitch spacing on rallies must be adhered to at all times. Spacing guidelines can be found in Annex 12.

Open fires, barbeques, gas-operated lighting, gas heaters and fire pits are not typically permitted. However, the Rally Officer has the final decision after undertaking a risk assessment. The landowner may have their own restrictions, which Centres need to follow.

If permitted, fire pits and barbecues must be used away from where the outfits are sited and raised off the ground to avoid fire risk and damage to the grass.

The Club recommends that all members have a British Standard (BS) approved fire extinguisher in their outfit. Those who rally should be familiar with this equipment.

The Rally Officer must consider how they would raise the alarm if there was a fire to warn members. For small rallies, this may be as simple as shouting FIRE, FIRE, FIRE, but for larger rallies, this may need to be a temporary alarm. An emergency fire or air horn is ideal.

Alternatively, a Centre could invest in a rotary fire alarm to place on the fire point.

If a marquee is on the site and used as a community area, then there should be clearly signed fire exits. Awnings, canopies, tarpaulins and wind-breaks must not be used to join caravans together as this can increase the spread of fire and may invalidate insurance claim.

700th Rally plaque

Dear Members

Over the weekend I was privileged to present a Long Service award to Linda & Aubrey Thomas at the St David’s rally they were running. They received their 700th Rally Plaque, which is no mean feat and I wish to send Congratulations to you both and look forward to seeing both on many more rallies.

JOHN TAUBERT – Such Very Sad News

It is with the greatest regret that I have to let you know that John Taubert’s family has been in contact to say they lost John last Friday and that he died peacefully with his family around him.  Our sincerest condolences are sent to his wife, Pauline and their family at this sad time.

John and Pauline have been at the heart of the South Essex Centre for so many years, being on the Committee, running rallies, attending Nationals and being part of the Carnival Walk.  I have seen some photos today showing John in various fancy dress bringing back wonderful memories. I am sure our members have their own memories to share together.

John also played a large part on the Committee over many years, taking roles such as Rally Secretary, Social Secretary and Vice-Chairman, no small tasks.  Over the last few years their support for the Centre has been very much appreciated.

At this moment we have no further details, but we will let members know of any arrangements.

Sending our love, hugs and kisses to Pauline and the family xxx
