The Centre 1990-1999

 

One thing that strikes me as I embark upon this era of our history is the increase in the number of newsletters published.

 

1990     We won the decorated car competition and reached the final of the Top Centre Quiz at the National Rally.

·                 For a while, non-contentious items from Committee Minutes were published, with the newsletter.

·                 Unable to put a Sports Committee together at the AGM.

·                 A motion was put to the AGM that the Sports Committee be funded by the Centre rather than raising their own funds. This was adopted.

 

1991     At the National, Lee Carter was overall winner in the children’s fancy dress with Bertie Bassett.

·                 A motion was put to the AGM that Generators should not be used between the hours of 6.00pm and 9.00 am. This was defeated.

·                 Miss South Essex was Joanne Thomas daughter of Aubrey & Linda

1992     The Sports Committee first received sponsorship from Cranham Caravans.

·                 Colin Hammett won gold medal in children’s sports at the National.

·                 Celebrated our 30th birthday at a joint rally with North Essex held at Essex Showground, Great Leighs.

·                 Bonny Fry daughter of Bill & Lyn was elected Miss South Essex

 

1993   Sports committee was increased from 6 to 8 members.

·                 Miss South Essex was Amanda Trafford, daughter of Graham & Linda

 

1994     Started running petanque competition at National.

·                 Trees were planted at Gilwell Park in memory of deceased past Chairmen.

·                 Admin fee increased to £1.

·                 Started charging for rally books, with the exception of new members and fellowship holders.

·                 Dave Farrar came 1st in the Humour Section of the photographic competition at the National.

·                 The medallion for the Chairman’s partner was presented to the Centre in memory of Laurie & Vi White.

 

1996   3000 rallies were celebrated.

·                 Robert Nobbs winner and Richard Walker runner up in the Junior cycling at the National.

·                 Regional Councils came in to operation.

 

1997   Gwen Vaughan and Mark Carson win board darts at the National.

·                 Committee issued a questionnaire which 204 members completed, we were promised that results would be published in newsletter.

 

1999     Won the Rally book front cover competition that is run by the Club.

·                 Won Lawn Darts at the National.
